John's Key Accomplishments

John has:

  • Led the effort to hire Medford’s first traffic engineer to address the city’s crippling traffic issues. 

  • Convened neighborhood meetings with Medford Police Department to cultivate engagement and dialogue with residents. 

  • Pushed for new software to increase transparency and accessibility of city government. 

  • Supported every pro-environmental issue to come before him and was the only councilor in favor of municipal aggregation in 2016. 

  • Initiated the movement to review outdated zoning ordinances and led the overdue effort to recodify zoning. 

  • Advocated for the creation of an Affordable Housing Trust and led the effort to create the Inclusionary Housing Ordinance.

  • Worked to reduce class sizes, update technology, build the Field of Dreams, refurbish the MHS swimming pool, start the after-school program, and increase Medford Vocational Technical High School programming in key STEM areas of BioTech/Environmental; Robotics/  Engineering; Business/Marketing; Hospitality/Culinary; Graphics/ Design. 

  • Championed a gender identity non-discrimination policy to protect and support our transgender and non-binary students.

John’s emergence in public service began at the “Purple Door.” In 2002, The Medford Family Network (MFN) quickly became a special place for John, Jacqui, and their first child, John.


When Marie needed help, John joined the Parent Advisory Board and quickly assumed many leadership roles including Chairperson of that board and the MFN Legislative Action Committee.

Concurrently, John was a member of the Friends of the MFN and the MFN Family Resource Coalition. John represented the MFN on the State level as a member of the MA Department of Early Education and Care Parent Advisory Board and as an advocate for a number of child and family-centered causes. 

John received the 2017
